Normally here on Overlooked, we post about things that are truly for sale online. However, in this case, I needed to make an exception. Proporta is a real store (in the UK)... they mostly sell things like cases for mp3 players and cameras and GPS devices. They also sell cable tidies.

Cable tidies are, for the most part, a good idea done wrong. To the right you can see several takes on the same theme. They are based on the idea of wrapping the slack in your headphones cable tightly around a core. I hate this design.

  • It's slow and annoying to adjust the amount of cable you're wrapping up. Because the core is small, each wrap is a very short length.
  • More importantly, due to the tightness of the wrapping, they permanently kink up your headphone wire. After you unwrap the wire, it resembles something between a lightning bolt and a slinky.
  • If you wear earbuds (and I do) the things weigh just enough to drag them slowly out of your ears.

Proporta has a better idea. The picture does it better justice than I could with words.

But I'll try, because otherwise I'll leave some awkward whitespace on the page. Basically, the wire isn't tightly wound, so no kinks. Less bulk (it seems from the pix), so not as much pulling. And winding and unwinding should be a cinch, since the loops you make don't have to be itty-bitty to wrap around the thin core.

I might even order and have one shipped from overseas because I don't see any vendors selling it domestically. The magnetic closure would make for a rapid opening and closing.

Big Cat Hunting Stilts

It also shoots bees from its mouth when it roars.

Ok, back to why this post is an exception. We have reason to suspect that the Big Cat Hunting Stilts, despite being listed on Proporta's site for a price of one million Pounds, are not truly a product for sale. From the item description:

Don't let lanky quadropedal prey get away this holiday - stay on top of the situation and let technology do the hard work.

The Proporta hunting stilts have collapsible telescopic front knee joints to assist in killing and feeding.

...

Coming soon from Proporta - GIRAFFE INLINE SKATES. Giraffes, don't let improbable-big-cat-on-stilts type hunting behaviour ruin your day. Make a sharp exit on our really-very-big-indeed inline skates and show a tall tiger a clean pair of heels.

I'm assuming that the page is really just an artifact of testing their e-commerce system. I tried to cart the item, but the site just hung.

Need a lift?

Every day, we see lots of products from around the web. Some of them are too good to ignore. Come along for the ride as we stop to admire the best of these overlooked items here. Remember, if someone's selling it, there's someone buying it.
